It appears the election of a Democratic governor and a Democratic Secretary of State is paying off for Michigan citizens. It probably doesn’t hurt that they’re both women. At the forefront of any states I’m aware of, Michigan is not waiting for its voters to request absentee ballots. Instead, the requests are being mailed to every registered voter in the state for the May 5th election.
Yesterday, both my husband and I received forms from the State to request absentee ballots for the May 5th election. On the same form, we can request that we receive absentee ballots for future elections as well. All we have to do is sign the form and put it in the mail in the enclosed stamped self addressed envelope. We’ll receive the absentee ballot and be able to do the same thing with those. No risking our health to vote. No risking the health of others to vote. Although waiting in line has never been an issue for us, since we live in a very rural area, I’m sure that’s going to matter to a great number in the larger cities.
I don’t know whether anyone else has read about the differences between the few countries in the world headed by women and their respective responses to the COVID19 virus versus that of so many other countries, but if not, it makes for an interesting read. While I’m not going to say women necessarily make better leaders, particularly in a crisis, I will say it certainly points out the need and benefits of having more women in leadership positions.
