It’s been seven years and a day since I stood on a beach in Florida and watched the last flight of space shuttle Discovery. Until I left the state, I’d had a front-row seat for countless launches over the years; some of them had been Discovery. It’s both a joy and a sorrow as I remember the past.

Discovery arrived at Dulles airport on April 17, 2012. It is now at the Smithsonian's display in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia.
