The Wisconsin Republican State Legislature leaders, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, are going to the conservative 5-2 Wisconsin Supreme Court to remove the power of Democratic Governor, Tony Evers, and his Department of Health Services Secretary and have it transferred to them. They are bypassing lower courts and going straight to the same court that ordered our recent elections to proceed.
Governor Evers following the guidelines issued by the Trump Administration had proposed extending the emergency closures to May 26. 4,600 state residents have contracted COVID-19 and 242 people have died so far. Hardest hit by COVID-19 has been the African-American community in
the City of Milwaukee.
The same state legislature leaders passed Lame Duck legislation and signed by loser Scott Walker in December 2018 to take power away from the incoming Governor Tony Evers. The gerrymandered republican controlled Wisconsin state legislature has refused to work with Governor Evers or confirm his appointments. With this latest action they are trying to take more power away from the executive branch of Wisconsin state government. The end result is will be more citizens contracting COVID-19 and some dying.
GOP lawmakers ask Supreme Court to block Tony Evers' order to stay home
Most state residents have been sheltering in place and are afraid that the Wisconsin State Supreme Court will rubber stamp this request from Vos and Fitzgerald.
