The media is currently replete with people — in states like Georgia and Oklahoma that are trying to “reopen” their economies - lining up for much-needed haircuts, manicures and workouts at salons, barbershops, gyms, etc. Clearly, these customers are more than willing and able to fork over their cash to receive these and similar services.
But why not take that money and, rather than endangering your life, the lives of the workers and the lives of those in your community, simply give it to help the barbers, hair stylists or gym workers in this difficult time? We’re all going to look ridiculous when all this is over anyway so a missed haircut or two (or three) is really not going to be a big deal in the long run. Plus, you’ll be helping to alleviate the financial and mental stress of someone you probably know and care about. It’s money you were going to spend anyway, so why not do some real good with it, while, at the same time, not adding to the spread of Covid-19? A real win/win for all involved.
This technique could also be applied to people like housekeepers and nannies. If you can afford it, continue to pay for their services even if those services are not provided.
It seems the least that we, who are more fortunate, can do for our fellow citizens in this unprecedented time.
