If you are social-distanced out of your mind, have run out of things to do (or have gotten really good at putting them off), here’s a project you can do. All you need is a color printer, some heavy paper (card stock) scissors, glue, and maybe a craft knife. And it’s all thanks to Tom Tomorrow, AKA Dan Perkins.
Here’s the link to the graphic file link.
A punch-out version of this was included as a bonus with the big TMW25 compilation a few years back. You should be able to download a full size copy here. I’d suggest using a dull blade to score where the dotted lines indicated, otherwise should be self-explanatory.
I put the one you see above together in about an hour or less — but I’ve been doing this kind of thing for a while. If you have something like an exacto knife and a cutting board, I found it easier to use those to cut it out and cut the slots in the slot and tab parts. If you screw up, no big deal — just print another one and start over.
Speaking of quarantine, his March 26 blog post on Life in the Coronaverse is a good perspective piece on where we are. The GOP cult of death is now openly okay with human sacrifice. As Perkins observes in his blog post,
...Over these past few years, cartoonists and comedians have grown used to hearing the same comment over and over again: you must have so much *material*! Unfortunately that’s not really how it works. Satire is the art of taking something to an absurd extreme in order to highlight the problems of the current moment. The thing is, we are living in the absurd extreme. I try my best, but it’s impossible to come up with something so ludicrous that Trump won’t actually end up doing it in reality, often before anyone even reads the cartoon.
Satire in the age of Trump is exhausting...
So, take a break, sit back (don’t run with scissors), and see if you can build your own Sparkymobile. In the words of our Great Leader, “What have you got to lose?”
