Biden Should Make a Pledge, Focus on the Future, and Take Tangible Steps
With regard to the claims of the appearance of impropriety with Hunter Biden, Joe Biden should not allow Trump to mire him in the past. Instead, Biden should say:
Hunter did not do anything wrong, but I hear you. I can’t change the past, but what I can do is take your concerns seriously, and pledge that:
During my Presidency,
- None of my children will serve on any boards;
- None of my children will be engaged in foreign business deals;
- I will not engage in nepotism. None of my children or their spouses will be appointed to positions in the White House;
- None of my children or their spouses will serve as White House Advisors;
- I will completely divest of any business assets (and not just let my children run them for me) so that there is no concern of impropriety; and
- I will release my taxes; etc.
I hear you and I make this pledge to you. And I will lay out a detailed plan.
Show the Stark Contrast With Donald Trump and Turn it Back on Him
Unlike Donald Trump, I will not appoint my children to positions in the White House. Unlike Trump, I will appoint the best qualified and most knowledgeable individuals. Jared Kushner was put in charge of U.S. supply chains, reforming the criminal justice system, the opioid crisis, Middle East peace, and is Trump’s White House Advisor. Ivanka and Jared have been appointed to be in charge of numerous things that they are completely unqualified for. Jared worked in real estate and he is now somehow on the small, elite task force to work on U.S. supply chains during Coronavirus, Middle East peace, the opioid crisis, and reforming the criminal justice system?
Biden should point this out and say, look Jared may be good at real estate, but he lacks any experience at all for any of those positions. He obviously is there for one reason and that is nepotism. Unlike Trump, Biden should pledge that he will appoint the best, most qualified people and not just people who are loyal to him. Biden’s interests are in doing the best for the country and not himself.
Unlike Trump, I pledge that my children will not run around the world making business deals by trading on my Presidency. Trump’s kids have been traveling the world on the taxpayer’s dollar, getting meetings with world leaders by trading on their dad’s Presidency, and making many foreign business deals. www.nytimes.com/...; www.gq.com/… Unlike Trump, I will divest all of my business deals and not just hand them over to my children to run.
I will be transparent. Unlike Donald Trump, I will release all of my tax records.
Biden Should Lay Out a Specific Plan and Take Tangible Steps
Biden should say, I take your concerns over the appearance of impropriety seriously. Although I can’t change the past, I can make sure you have a President that hears you and addresses your concerns with a plan and clear, tangible steps. Biden should focus on laying out his plan.
Biden should say, voters have a choice: A candidate that is willing to take this pledge or a candidate that refuses to do so. A candidate that hears you or a candidate that ignores you.
