Lee County Chapter of the Democratic Environmental Caucus is endorsing Shawn Williams as the preferred candidate running for Florida State House District 78. This district is entirely within Lee County, Florida. This area is hit hard by the Republican State legislature’s assault on local environmental legislation and Shawn Williams is dedicating to countering that.
Williams says, “Our land, our water, and our beaches are our state's greatest treasures and greatest economic assets. Our current ‘representatives’ do not understand this basic economic truth, and their disregard for Florida's natural resources is a reckless threat to our economy.”
Williams supports the DECF position that there is a direct connection between environmental health and human health. DECF President, Dr. Janelle Christensen says, “For 8 years, this seat was run by someone who believed who constantly voted to override local attempts to protect their environment: voted against local plastic regulations and regulating chemicals in sunscreens that hurt coral reefs. It didn’t matter how many of his constituents he hurt. Shawn Williams can undo that damage.”

Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida’s (DECF) members support Florida lawmakers, candidates, legislation and businesses which preserve, protect and enhance Florida’s natural resources and reversing the effects of climate change. The DECF concerns include protecting addressing climate change, Florida’s air quality, shorelines and coasts, aquifers, waterways, wetlands, wildlife, remaining natural areas and publicly owned wild lands and parks. DECF tracks environmental legislation, lobbies Democratic candidates to vote for the environment, evaluates voting records and communicates findings with the public via a Green Report Card. DECF is chartered by the Florida Democratic Party.
