Rep. Val Demings expresses a desire to take on a job she is more than qualified for: to serve as Joe Biden's vice president. "And if asked, I would be honored to serve alongside Joe Biden and do everything in my power to get this country back on track, not just here in the nation but around the world,'' Demings said in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Wednesday.
Demings, a former Orlando police chief and the first woman to hold the title, was House manager in President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial, and she has been critical of Trump’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
"At the very least, we ought to be able to have a leader that we can trust,” she told MSNBC. “We don’t have that right now.” Demings said she hasn’t been able to “endure or bear” the president’s daily coronavirus briefings anymore because the words coming out of his mouth have been “unbelievable.” She said they “risk lives all over this country.”
"No one—the president or the governor here in Florida—should be taking a victory lap when people are continuing to lose their lives because of COVID-19,” Demings said.
When asked specifically about her willingness to serve as vice president, Demings listed her qualifications for MSNBC. She said she has dedicated her life to public service as a social worker and law enforcement officer. "I chose tough jobs," she said. "We're dealing with a tough time right now. We're in the middle of a crisis. I've dealt with crisis before."

Aubrey Jewett, a University of Central Florida political science professor, told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel Demings’ Florida roots make her “a viable option” for the vice presidency because Florida plays an essential part in elections. Demings "has an excellent track record of accomplishments throughout her career,” Jewett said. “She’s a pathbreaker.”
