I’m becoming rapidly disgusted with a segment of the human race. We have, of course, had the examples of the “Reopen” goobers preening and posing with their penis-compensators and Mad Max LARPing gear around various courthouses in the country, upset that they can’t get haircuts and manicures, apparently.
In the last several days, though, we’ve seen increasing acts of aggression and violence against workers just doing their jobs.
There was the security guard who was murdered in cold blood for telling a woman her daughter couldn’t enter a Family Dollar store without a mask, leaving a widow and 7 children.
There was the Dollar Tree worker who, when she advised a customer he could not come into the store without a mask, had him respond by saying “I’ll just use this” and grabbing her shirt and wiping his face with it.
I’ve read comments on social media from people, especially in red states, of incidents where wearing a mask has gotten them taunts and insults, or in one case, a man deliberately leaning over and coughing in a woman’s face as he walked by.
There is the instance of Stillwater, OK, that rescinded a proclamation requiring customers of businesses in the city to wear masks after just one day in effect because business owners and workers were receiving so many insults and even threats of violence over trying to enforce the requirement.
And now two 16-year-old fast food workers in Oklahoma City have been shot for having the audacity to tell two female customers that the dining area was closed. Their injuries are not life-threatening, but I’m sure that the psychological effects will last a lifetime. A third female employee received a minor head injury though it wasn’t clear how — perhaps hitting her head as she tried to take cover.
From KFOR News in Oklahoma City:
Oklahoma City police have confirmed that two 16-year-old McDonald’s employees were shot after two customers became upset when they were told the restaurant’s dining room was closed.
Police said they believe they have the suspects – two females – in custody. They are comparing the two people in custody to descriptions they received.
The shooting happened inside the McDonald’s at SW 89th and Pennsylvania Avenue.
So many people so angry over minor inconveniences that they’re willing to not only insult and threaten those of us that dare to wear masks for trying to protect the public, but even willing to assault and even kill people for what amount to minor inconveniences that are in place, again, to protect the general health and welfare of the public during a deadly pandemic.
I’m just---amazed, I think is the word I’m looking for. I’m gobsmacked that someone would shoot a man in the head over not being allowed to shop at Family Dollar, that people would shoot two teenage fast food workers over not being able to eat a hamburger inside the store. The idea is just so foreign to me I can’t even wrap my head around the thought process that would have to be involved to arrive at the conclusion that something like this would be anything like acceptable human behavior. It sure as hell doesn’t make me think I want to go out and mingle with these people as things open back up.
