The woman in that racist video from San Francisco, where she confronted a (non-white, of course) man for stencilling Black Lives Matter on his own property, has now offered an apology:
Lisa Alexander Statement
"I want to apologize directly to Mr. Juanillo. There are not enough words to describe how truly sorry I am for being disrespectful to him last Tuesday when I made the decision to question him about what he was doing in front of his home. I should have minded my own business.
The last 48 hours has taught me that my actions were those of someone who is not aware of the damage caused by being ignorant and naive to racial inequalities. When I watch the video I am shocked and sad that I behaved the way I did. It was disrespectful to Mr. Juanillo and I am deeply sorry for that. I did not realize at the time that my actions were racist and have learned a painful lesson. I am taking a hard look at the meaning behind white privilege and am committed to growing from this experience. I would love to have coffee with Mr. Juanillo in our neighborhood so I can apologize in person and share a dialogue where I can continue to learn and grow and be a better person."
That's a nice apology and all, but it seems a little disingenuous for her to say that what she did came from her being "ignorant and naive to racial inequalities."
She's deleted her twitter account, but the internet never forgets, at least not completely. (h/t reddit}
She claims to have been "naive" about white privilege and racial inequalities, but how likely is that, when in just the brief snapshot captured by the crawlers of the Web Archive of her twitter feed — just a few of the posts of one day, June 13 — she retweeted a QAnon post, an Ann Coulter post, and multiple Breitbart posts. She dissed "illegal immigrants," Greta Thunberg, and Governor Newsom for helping the homeless. She opposed the shutdown to stop Covid-19, she called for Obama to be subpoenaed, and wanted to save the world from globalists using Covid to establish a new world order.
Would you really wanna bet that someone with that kind of social media timeline in only one part of one day had no idea that she was being a racist busybody calling the police on a non-white man over what he was doing with his own property?
David Frum has long had a tweet at the top of his timeline that says "When this is all over, nobody will admit to ever having supported it."
Well, it's not all over yet, but the world is shifting.
My advice to all you Lisa Alexanders out there: Don't wait for it to be all over. Stop tweeting and retweeting your insane garbage and toxic lies now, before it bites you in the ass and brings your whole world tumbling down on you in a terrible deluge of awful publicity that the internet will truly NEVER forget. Stop watching Fox News and OANN and all the other crap right-wing news, and stop reading Breitbart. They're all lying to you. Stop now and get out of the Trumpian bubble while you still can. Read up on some real news sources. Educate yourself. Deprogram yourself from the propaganda they’ve been feeding you.
It's late, but there's still time to redeem yourself. Go to a Black Lives Matter protest, not as a counter-protestor, but to talk to people and learn. Expand your perspective. Try to learn what life is like for those who aren't born with your privilege.
Who knows, you might be a happier person if you don't have to only pretend to be respectful of others who don't look like you, but you actually feel respect for them.
The world loves a redemption story, so go do it now — today. Don’t wait until its too late to try to pretend you never supported all this foul Trumpian quasi-fascist garbage.
