Charles Hamilton Houston / Brown v Topeka Board Of Ed (1951) An African American Lawyer who helped play a role in dismantling the Jim Crow laws and helped train future Supreme Court justice Thurgood Marshall.
He played a role in nearly every civil rights case before the Supreme Court between 1930 and Brown v Board of Education (1954).
Houston’s brilliant plan to attack and defeat Jim Crow segregation by using the inequality of the “separate but equal” doctrine (from the Supreme Court’s Plessy v Ferguson decision) as it pertained to public education in the United States was the master stroke that brought about the landmark Brown decision.

Addendum
Nowadays we cannot envision; a 15 year old, who hardly knew anything, about the Civil War and slavery in the United States. (1965)
I’d read about the Greeks, Romans and other ancient cultures having slaves. But they never taught about the Civil War, in my South-New Jersey, upper, middle class, grammar school. They called it a “Progressive School” the emphasis was on Math And Literature.
The only history I remember, was about, “The Revolutionary War.” (and I was an A and B, student)
Regarding the “Revolutionary War,” I could quote facts.
We visited Valley Forge. We were told how Washington’s Troops froze and starved.
But: Civil War, nothing.
I learned a little about Civil Rights from my Mother and leaders like Dr King. But somewhere, I missed the entire civil war in my grammar school to-8th grade education.
I learned everything I knew about the Civil War, from the film, “Gone With The Wind.” It was re-playing in a local movie theater when I was 16.
Then when I was older in 1977, “Roots” premiered on television. (I cried from the beginning to end of that movie). I saw Roots The Next Generations and also Queen.
Until I moved back to North NJ, age 14, the only African American people I ever met, were the Men who used to push the “Rolling Chairs” on Atlantic City’s Boardwalk (1950’s). Even as a child I realized how hard they worked, walking from one end of the Boardwalk to the other, pushing those rolling carts, all day, night.
I heard about “stereotyping” back in College in the 1980’s. Racial, Gender, Disability, all stereotypes, harmful. It is; not only harmful to the self esteem of those stereotyped, but it harms those, uneducated enough to be influenced by stereotyping.
We also learned about that terrible film, birth of a nation, in media class. I saw a few clips of that movie somewhere on Youtube, a few years ago. For sure; there’s good reason, for it’s being banned!
I Had The Best Media Teacher Anywhere! I Had, All The Best Professors In College! That’s why I’m so smart. I started out as dumb as anyone could imagine. But I had good Teachers and learned from experience. Learning from experience is not the best way to learn. Easier, to get as much education as possible.
