The South Bend Tribune newspaper which is the local news source for northern Indiana includes a story in this afternoon’s edition regarding a breakthrough in mask technology that may impact containment of visual infections such as Coronavirus. Article from South Bend Tribute on developing mask techonology
An Indiana University scientist has discovered that face masks made of a special fabric could do more than simply block the coronavirus from infecting the wearer. The masks could actually kill the germs. Known as electroceutical fabric, the material employs microcell batteries to create an electrical field that essentially disarms the virus and prevents it from infecting a person. Without a host, the virus will die
The FDA has already approved the mask for wound dressing and it prevents bacterial infections in surgery or wound patients. The company, V.Dox Technology which makes the fabric has applied to the FDA for emergency authorization to manufacture face masks.
It is a HUGE step in patient care not just for Coronavirus but across the board in preventive care.
So yes kiddies, those Science, Technology, Engineering and Math course can be very rewarding!
