Travel to the Statehouse to Fight For a Future SC can Live in! on Wednesday, June 24 at 11 am.
The Palmetto State struggles from the Piedmont to the Pee Dee. We have epidemic, depression, outbreaks of racism, and violence. We cannot live this way.
Progressive Legislators have introduced bills this session to build affordable housing, improve tranist, build complete streets, make police accountable for forfeited property, raise the wage, and make healthcare available to all. We have a billion and a half dollars in surplus funds sitting unappropriated in the state treasury. When SC was not in crisis, these things weren’t important enough for our legislature to vote on. Now that we’re in crisis, the worst of our lifetimes, they say there isn’t time.
Chronic failure doesn’t provoke the legislative action needed to fix South Carolina. Crisis doesn’t either.
Join us in the fight for a future we can live in.
We’ll be leaving from next to CARTA Superstop in N. Charleston at 8 am and from Hutchison Square in Summerville at 8:15. We expect to arrive in Columbia before 11 am. We’ll rally outside on the steps and then go inside to lobby our legislators, address the state with live webcasts from the statehouse and send a group over to the Dtp. Of Transportation to demand tranist equity. We want our bills voted on and the surplus funds responsible allocated to meet human need and stimulate the economy.
Come to the SC Statehouse on Wed. June 24 as the Legislature Reopens to fight for This action is organizing now, change, new partners and disruption are to be expected.
Pack a lunch, grab your gloves, mask and hand sanitizer and we’ll try to find a ride to Columbia for everyone. There will be preparatory Zoom conferences, but this is no virtual event. Final for the effort will start on Thur. June 18 when Louise Brown, Mother of the Movement, returns to Charleston at Liberty Hill Station on board the Amtrak Silver Palmetto at 7:12 pm. We’ll organize throughout the Juneteenth weekend and be ready on June 24.
For more information see https://www.facebook.com/lowcountry.up.is.good.PAC/ or contact Marvin Pendarvis at (803) 212-6716.
