I started a daily journal by taking notes for every Phone call and Zoom meeting back in March. First I did it for the new business I had just launched. Being the ever-frugal Scotsman (by birth) I went to the dollar store to buy some pens after having written ~½ of a full journal book (my third) and left it in the rain…..
That morning, I had discovered a soaking wet journal…. and had lost ~2-3 weeks of diary because I was mostly using an ink pen… the ink was partially soluble in water and had smeared the cursive just like my first experiment in chromatography so many years ago.
My son, who is a pro-gamer @ 14, or so he thinks, can barely write in block letters! He signs his name with poor block letters representing his initials.
I feel as though I have failed him.
He also struggles with his times tables!
He is very smart, but oh so lazy.
Anyway, back to that day….. I went to the dollar store, as I walked the aisles I started grabbing stuff that I thought would be useful and very affordable. Full basket. Ashtrays, BBQ lighter, clipboards, sharpies, journal book… then I got to the pens.
So many Chinese knock-offs of the famous brands like Bic or Biro (monopolies everywhere)…. I grabbed a pack of 20 cheap Chinese Biro knockoffs.
What a difference a good Biro can make!
My handwriting immediately improved, and I began writing much smaller to fit more on each page… my hand skill was suddenly similar to the days of yore when I practised calligraphy with a special metal quill….
My son will never know that sensation.
