Like many people here, I have been wondering how to effectively counter the anti-democratic efforts of Trump, Republican, and their more autocratic supporters.
There is a theory that to survive conservative autocracy, you should retain your ability to laugh.
So: we should laugh.
But, just as voting is not enough, mere laughing is not enough.
We need to laugh at. (Yes, I ended that sentence with a preposition.)
We know Trump values the esteem (or, perhaps more accurately, the acquiescence, voluntary or not) of people he sees whom he thinks can see him; this is why he likes being on TV, this is why he likes campaign rallies, this is why he likes appearing before the troops (who are at a professionally low risk of booing him), and this is why he wants downtown Washington D.C. cleared of any protesters.
That's what the mystery guys in shades are there for. So he can not see us. We got him to hide in his bunker already.
But sometimes he ventures out into the cold, unfeeling, pandemic-wracked, unemployed, violent, partisan world, so that he can be seen dominating the streets, either in a photo op or in a vehicle.
And that is when we need to laugh.
And that is whom we need to laugh *at*.
Him.
Laugh.
Point and laugh.
Point at him and laugh any time you think he might see you.
Motorcade? Point and laugh.
Press conference? Point and laugh.
Photo op? Point and laugh.
Laugh -- and enjoy it. Throw your head back repeatedly.
Feels good, right? And, don't we deserve to feel good about ourselves and our country and what we are doing?
Yes. So, point and laugh. Because he is afraid he is losing.
Best of all, it is free, and legal, and available to anyone and everyone.
Point and laugh.
(And, protest injustice, look out for each other, challenge injustice where you see it and when you are told about it, work to improve your understanding of the world and all its people, and love each other, and also... when you see Trump or think he might see you, point and laugh.)
Point and laugh.
He deserves it.
We deserve it.
Point and laugh.
