Wallowa, Oregon, early October 2018. My forestry work in the Northwest was about to draw to a close. Instead of going on a walk with Noble Fur around the motel where we stayed, I took her for a short drive to a railroad crossing next to the Wallowa River. Beyond the tracks is old bridge over the river which is part of the Nez Perce Homeland, and is now a pedestrian bridge. The setting sun colored the sky and reflected off the tracks. The town’s old grain elevator added an interesting background.
Noble Fur wanted a long walk that evening, and I got lots of pictures. Two or three of them made it into the comments back then. Here, for your viewing enjoyment, is an expanded collection.
No need to check for trains, actually. As far as I’m aware, (to borrow a line from the song) the train don’t run by here no more. Instead, the tracks are used by railriders, who use pedal-powered contraptions to ride the abandoned lines.

Pedaling The Rails From Enterprise To Joseph, Oregon
I have another set of rail pictures from Montana, which I’m saving for a later diary. Here’s a teaser, a pic that I’ve posted before:
Thanks for spending a few minutes with Noble Fur. As always, feel free to add your pictures and comments.
