Something pretty wonderful happened yesterday.
In Columbia Missouri, 62 University of Missouri student athletes exercised their right to protest, marched to the Boone County courthouse, took a knee for 8 minutes and 46 seconds in honor of George Floyd, and then registered to vote. They were joined by coaches, various university officials, police officers and other community members.
Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz, who joined the students, stated “Today we decided that action is what causes change... Our integrity is when words and actions come into alignment. So we did that.”
This combination of free speech and purposeful action is a powerful message.
Imagine if every protest currently underway included this simple powerful additional action.
