I greatly admire people like Greta Thunberg. She is not only politically aware but she became politically active. More power to her.
i first became aware of politics when I was 7 or so. I admit I did not know much, but I watched presidential election results, was aware we had a mostly 2 party system, I sort of knew but did not understand about the whole “Electoral College” thing. I also knew that both my parents called themselves Democrats.
The topic that got me really “involved with” politics was Operation Entebbi. I still remember, it was one of the first memories I had. Our whole family was glued to the television. I became aware of the different parties view on the country of Israel, and the topic became my primary interest...foreign policy.
Of course as I grew I became more than a one issue person. Being teh gay and growing up gay in the age of Reagan I learned of hate, fear and death...having lost many friends due to his inaction on HIV/AIDS. I became active in the areas of health care and gay rights.
Other issues became important to me as I continued to age and grow.
However to me the interesting thing is….the topics I grew up most interested as a child are still the most important reasons I am active in politics…..foreign policy issues….health care issues….and minority rights.
I am interested as to when people became politically aware and what topics made you so...and if those issues are still the main issues that you care about.
