File this under completely unsurprising. Just days after attending Trump’s Tulsa rally, former GOP presidential candidate and Trump booster Herman Cain has tested positive for COVID-19. Cain tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday and "developed symptoms serious enough that he required hospitalization” yesterday, according to a statement on his Twitter account. According to a statement from Cain’s spokespeople he has not required a ventilator ans is “awake and alert.”
Despite being 74 years old and a survivor of Stage 4 cancer, thus making him particularly vulnerable to the virus, Cain tweeted photos of him at the Tulsa rally not wearing a mask or practicing any type of social distancing. He has also laughably disputed the official counts of the rally, claiming it was closer to 16,000 people than the reported 6,200.
Cain’s spokespeople have asked for everyone’s thought’s and prayers for Cain and others stricken with the coronavirus. But urging people to foll official health guidelines that would prevent the spread of the virus? Not so much. Not the GOP way.
I suspect we’ll continue to hear more public health fallout from Trump’s disastrous Tulsa rally in the days to come. As the Washington Post recently reported, “In the past two weeks, the campaign has contended with waves of fallout from the rally,” Hard to have predicted this /snark.
