The deputy director of the CDC pointed out that we can’t do what New Zealand, Singapore and New Zealand have done: tracing down new cases and all their contacts, quarantining them: to keep things under control.
Deputy Director Schuchat said: “We have way too much virus across the country for that right now.”
In other words, ‘we’ can’t keep things under control.
The We, really, means the Trump administration. It has executive power over the whole country, and the only national policy proposed by Trump (and confirmed in his cuts to his testing regime) is to slow down testing, so we’ll know even less about the virus’s progress, but we’ll still know, ominously, from the rising hospitalizations or no hospital vacancies, and rising deaths.
It’s crazy, closed-eyed denial that is totally self-defeating, for Trump and for the nation as a whole, and certainly for the 100’s of thousands more who will die, because of Trump’s lack of leadership.
If the election were held today, Trump and his fellow Republicans would be out in an instant.
If that happens on 11/03 (or when votes are all counted):
He should be charged and tried for multiple cases of manslaughter, perhaps murder 2nd degree, as soon as he steps down, when finally, he cannot legally hold onto the Presidency any longer.
I don’t call for his execution or imprisonment, though I think he deserves to be shot.
When the votes are counted and he and his co-defendants (the whinging Senators and Congresspeople and appointees, who bowed to his every command), are out, as private citizens, they will be subject to the full power of the law.
I don’t think Trump should go to jail, however. He should be tried for multiple crimes, probably will be found guilty of many of them. Instead of jail, however, he should be deported to some country that doesn’t like him very much, but will agree to keep him under close control. His accomplices should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
The reason I’m against jail for Trump: I don’t think he merits mercy, but I fear for the democracy we do have, if we’ve established a precedent for jailing, or executing whomever loses the election.
There would never be a free election again. The incumbent would use all his/her powers to remain in office (rigged elections, emergency declarations, massive corruption, suppression of voters of whatever…)
Deporting him would be poetic justice, too, wouldn’t it?
Deportation would also strengthen international law.
The one thing that makes everyone nervous, on our side: will we have a fair election, or will there be massive suppression of the vote, intimidation, especially against Black voters and Hispanics? Mis-counting, or hanging chad type questions…?
We know now is not Nov. 3rd, but we do know that if the election were held today, Biden would win, along with Congress. Why?
Trump—and his Republican yes-sirs and cronies—are doing such a horrible job with the pandemic, as witness the spikes in Covid in the red states (and California).
They were doing what he had advised!
At the same time, he and his sycophants continue to downplay Black Lives Matter’s importance. Most, including Trump, seem completely out of tune with everyone, except with the absolutely crazy extreme right, or white power zealots.
And the economy is still tanked, if only marginally better than last month’s, and probably headed for worse, since Covid is taking off in the Midwest, South and Southwest.
Yes, Texas has closed the bars and mandated masks! It’s that bad.
There are only two ways that Trump could “win,” both by nefarious means: declare an Emergency, martial law, or declare election victory after suborning the Electors, or mis-counting the election in enough states, and suppressing enough votes.
His “business partners,” corporate heads or billionaires would be willing to spend almost anything to keep him in power; he’s in their power already.
If Trump is defeated, one early action by Congress should be to repeal the GOP tax law, to help defund the above financial perps.
The good news, along with the polls: the military would not support Trump in an extra-legal takeover. He’s done his best to alienate all branches of the military. VoteVets even accuses him of Treason.
