Today’s Supreme Court decisions regarding Donald Trump’s taxes reinforce the wisdom of the recent proposal made by New York Times columnist Tom Friedman concerning the 2020 Presidential Debates. Friedman argued that Joe Biden should take the following position regarding participation in debates with Trump:
Biden should declare that he will take part in a debate only if Trump releases his tax returns for 2016 through 2018. Biden has already done so, and they are on his website. Trump must, too. No more gifting Trump something he can attack while hiding his own questionable finances.

Undoubtedly, Trump will use the debates as a forum to spew lies and to slander Joe Biden. There is no good reason that the Biden campaign should give Trump a platform to attack Biden’s financial ethics before a hundred million voters, when Trump refuses to release his own tax returns. Any debates should be conducted on a fair and level playing field. Until, and unless, Trump agrees to make his tax returns public, as Joe Biden has done, Biden should not debate.
