In Trumpland, it is the Corporate “people” who matter — the actual “flesh and blood’ living, breathing, and now dying people, not so much.
In Trumpland, actually living people are only so many ‘pawns on the chessboard’ — that they will quickly sacrifice, if it suits their larger political ambitions. The King is the most important piece on the GOP chessboard. The Corporate Queens and Rooks, get their greedy-attention right after that.
The workers “pawns” are a “dime a dozen” in the GOP’s worldview. Thus their caviler talk about sacrificing us pawns for ‘their greater good’ … Case in point, McConnell’s “line in the sand” for the next Pandemic Relief Bill: CORPORATIONS MUST BE PROTECTED ...
The GOP’s radical plan to shield business from Covid-19 lawsuits, explained
by Ian Millhiser, Vox.com — Jul 29, 2020
On Monday, Senate Republicans unveiled their opening offer in negotiations over new legislation to mitigate the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Senate GOP’s $1 trillion package of proposals arrived just days before enhanced unemployment benefits are set to expire at the end of July, meaning that many jobless Americans’ incomes will drop precipitously if a new bill isn’t signed into law this week.
[...]
One of the centerpieces of the Senate Republican package is a bill that would give businesses sweeping immunity from lawsuits alleging that they helped spread the coronavirus to their workers or customers.
It’s such a high priority that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told CNBC on Tuesday that Republicans are “not negotiating over liability protection” — a position that, if true, could blow up any possibility of additional pandemic relief becoming law.
[...]
This must-have condition was reiterated today in the impromptu Press Conference with Mnuchin and Meadows. Corporations must be protected. Full stop. Nothing else matters to them.
Republicans — led by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) — are also demanding liability protection from lawsuits for schools and businesses as they begin to reopen.

Corporations are “People” afterall, in the GOP scheme of things …
In GOP plan, you can’t sue your employers for giving you COVID — but they can sue you
[...]
The GOP proposal would erect almost insurmountable obstacles to lawsuits by workers who become infected with the coronavirus at their workplaces.
It would absolve employers of responsibility for taking any but the most minimal steps to make their workplaces safe. It would preempt tough state workplace safety laws (not that there are very many of them).
And while shutting the courthouse door to workers, it would allow employers to sue workers for demanding safer conditions.
This is the provision that McConnell has described as his “red line” in negotiations over the next coronavirus relief bill [...]
In a democratic nation — of by and for the People — you would think you know PROTECTING ACTUAL LIVING PEOPLE would rate more than a bothersome afterthought.
But if we did — then all the GOP happy-talk on self-reliance, and hard-work, and elastic boot-straps, would become only so much meaningless blather, in the Covid winds.
Putting Corporate interests first, is definitely something us worker pawns have fallen Victim to, far too many times. The watchmen of the GOP must be held to account, for their heartless edicts.
Platitudinous edicts against humanity, in far too many cases. Given the soulless party that they have become under the thumb of Trump. And soulless they will continue to be …
