The North Star Stampede was held in Effie, Minn., the last weekend of July despite executive orders from Gov. Tim Walz requiring masks and strictly limiting crowd sizes. The foolishness of doing so was called out in this diary.
Organizers made the event free as a means of protesting the ham-handed overreach of government (though they took in donations...). The event happened on July 24-26 and the person felt ill and tested positive on the 27th. Since it’s deemed likely by epidemiologists that infected people are contagious prior to showing symptoms, the state health commissioner is urging everyone who attended to self-quarantine and get tested if they show symptoms (good luck with that).
Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison also announced Friday his office had filed a civil enforcement action against the rodeo’s organizers. Ellison is seeking damages as high as $25,000 per violation as well as other legal remedies.
