Sooo, I tune into MSNBC to see if I am able to stomach coverage of the “RNC”. And what I’m told by Rachel Maddow, Nicole Wallace, and Joy Ann Reid, is that the actual Republican National Convention is actually over. They already nominated a candidate, some weird guy or other, and he has accepted the nomination. There’s no platform, no pageantry, no nothing of any substance. What it really was amounts basically to something like —
Third-rate game show host Donald Trump is our king. We believe what he believes, whatever that is at any given moment. We pledge our undying loyalty to him, and will follow him to the ends of the Earth and beyond because pwning the libs makes us feel like we still have functioning brains. When he dies, if he ever does, his family will take over and rule in his stead, and thus shall it be, forever and ever, amen. Fuck you very much, and thanks for watching.
Ok. So I watched about 26 seconds of some neo-nazi twerp spewing ridiculous bullshit and was like “NOPE!!!” and then I put on Ezra Klein’s interview with Isabel Wilkerson (very worth listening to!) and went about cooking dinner for myself & my wife. All the while, asking out loud to the air — why on Earth would you cover this pro-Trump commercial?!?!?!? WHY? Y’all said it yourselves, the RNC began and ended, today. Just because Donald Trump is a world-class idiot who ruined what would already have been a grand exercise in complete and utter stupidity by trying to insist that the RNC should be a super-spreader event whereby he sickens and kills large numbers of his own supporters — this is not some reason to give him free publicity! Aren’t there consequences for this kind of all-time record-breaking incompetence?
I don’t get it. The internet exists. People who are interested in watching this sad spectacle can do so as they wish. But why on Earth is MSNBC covering it as if it were an actual political convention for an actual political party? Why is anyone?
