Because we are living in 2020, however, you already know that nobody’s bingo cards have “nice relaxing evening” reliably in center square. Sunday night we had a really bad freak thunderstorm here that downed a LOT of large trees, took out power to many of my neighbors for days, and scared the bejeesus out of my poor anxious aging pup.

Monday and Tuesday involved multiple hours of Zoom conversations as part of a local nursery school board I’ve sat on for five years, to decide whether or not we could reopen given state guidelines in the COVID era. Unfortunately, we could not in good conscience open our little old-fashioned preschool for two reasons: we were concerned about the safety of students and staff given the specifics of our physical space and teaching model, and also because space requirements per student means we would burn through our endowment in a single year operating at a loss.

We all survived the clusterfuck that was the four day Republican National No-Truth-Here Propaganda Convention. I made myself watch one night so I could say I’d done so, but I don’t have a masochistic streak and if I did there are better ways to exercise that trait :-).
I made the mistake of looking at the social media feed of my sibling’s partner and discovered it was full of MAGA propaganda and the kind of ‘if only thugs obeyed cops they wouldn’t end up dead’ crap that hurts my heart.
Hurricanes slammed into Louisiana and Texas.
And then yesterday I got a call from a dear friend sharing the horrible news that a family member who’d struggled for a long time with depression had ended their life.
And then while attempting a nice evening of Netflix and spouse we heard that Chadwick Boseman had died… of a type of cancer closely related to the one Mr. Brillig survived two decades ago.
To top this 35th week of 2020 off, shortly before dinner tonight I learned that a childhood neighbor went to the emergency room with severe back pain, and learned he has State IV melanoma. He had NO idea.

In the diary by Hohnee about a conversation with a (cordial) brother living in Wisconsin who still plans to vote for the Trumpster (despite some misgivings) - as opposed to a sister who is a full-on Trumper - wind off the lake suggests that he listen to a prominent Never Trumper in that state .... who might be more palatable for the brother to listen to, rather than a lefty.
