Good Wednesday Good Newsies, Gnusies, Newbies, and all of you who come and drop in to just read along (don’t be shy, join the conversation)! So the mango maniac went there. He really said the truth out loud. He does not give a flying f*ck about anyone. Of course, we knew that, yet hearing it put right out there with such clarity was like a punch in the face. Well you know what, It is what it is, tRump! And that is is you are toast. Please keep telling that kind of truth, because America has had enough of you. Mail threats, long lines, Covid, broken glass, none of it is going to stop us from getting you and your minions the heck out of dodge and taking our country back for the people, by the people and of the people!
I know there is so much going on everyday. Just when you think well that was pretty dang bad, wait for it… So just a little reminder to take care of yourself. We need everyone in this fight! I see a lot of comments about people freaking out over this post or that post, comments, here and other places. You do not need to read everything, read people and places you trust and back out if it gets that “we are doomed” conversation going on. Remember activism is a counter to all the negative. Anything you can personally do from donating to writing post cards is a contribution to the fight! We got this!
I ran into this article last week.
Looking back on The Beatles "Hey Jude" from a world a little colder
It talks about The Beatles “most open-hearted masterpiece”, Hey Jude.
Cynthia and Julian thought “Hey Jude” was for them. John heard it as the ballad of John and Yoko. But neither side was wrong — countless people around the world have heard this homily speaking to them. “The movement you need is on your shoulder”
The pain in “Hey Jude” resonated in 1968, in a world reeling from wars, riots and assassinations. And it’s why it sounds timely as our world keeps getting colder. After more than 50 years, “Hey Jude” remains a source of sustenance in difficult times — a moment when four longtime comrades, clear-eyed adults by now, take a look around at everything that’s broken around them. Yet they still join together to take a sad song and make it better.
Onward!
He is tanking and he knows it.
"No, He Doesn't," Say Experts as Trump Claims He Has the Right to Stop Mail-In Voting With Executive Order
President Donald Trump ramped up his baseless attacks on mail-in voting late Monday by threatening to issue an executive order curbing the practice ahead of the November elections, a move rights groups and experts said would be a flagrant violation of the U.S. Constitution.
"I have the right to do it," Trump said during a Covid-19 press briefing Monday evening. "We haven't gotten there yet, but we'll see what happens."
"No, he doesn't," responded attorney Daniel Jacobson. "As the Supreme Court has explained: 'the Framers of the Constitution intended the States to keep for themselves, as provided in the Tenth Amendment, the power to regulate elections.'"
The president's remarks came just hours after he called the Nevada legislature's expansion of mail-in ballot access "an illegal late night coup" that would make it "impossible" for Republicans to win the state.
See how he said the truth out loud there again?
“As Donald Trump continues to circle the drain and loses what little political leverage he had to begin with, he keeps growing more toothless with his empty threats. And as things keep getting uglier for Trump, he keeps getting more openly deranged. It’s a jarring combination that keeps spilling over into ugly public view.
Donald Trump was reminded yesterday that his own life is effectively over, when the Manhattan District Attorney revealed in court filings that Trump is facing criminal charges including bank fraud and insurance fraud. If and when Trump loses the election, he’ll rot in solitary confinement for the rest of his worthless life…”
He and his complicit rethugs are circling the drain and that is not if but when he loses. Yes, they have their base, it is not enough. Don’t get complacent, but you know that.
And what are we fighting for? Well this is just one example:
Biden reaches out to Latino voters with plan to tackle inequalities
Joe Biden’s election campaign on Tuesday unveiled a plan to address the economic inequalities facing Latinos in America amid financial turmoil caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which has disproportionately harmed communities of color.
The plan was introduced a day after the anniversary of the mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, that took the lives of 23 people and where the shooter is accused in federal court of deliberately targeting Hispanics.
Senior campaign officials announced plans and commitments focused on investing in the economic mobility of Latinos, starting with education and healthcare, as well as a commitment to support the building of a Smithsonian Latino museum on the National Mall in Washington DC.
Biden had previously promised to introduce a sweeping immigration plan on his first day in office, including protecting recipients of the Daca program, affording protections and rights to qualifying, young, undocumented immigrants, known as Dreamers– and also undoing the Trump administration’s hardline international asylum policies.
Have to keep this up, wink.
Hmmm…
McConnell says he will likely rely on Democratic votes for coronavirus aid package
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell conceded Tuesday that he will lack Republican support to pass further coronavirus aid and instead will rely on Democrats to fashion a deal with the White House.
"It's not going to produce a kumbaya moment," McConnell, R-Ky., told reporters in the Capitol. "But the American people in the end need help."
Well, well, well. Scared of Amy little man. Anyhoo, go dem’s!
Well then, let us move on.
How about we start with this, because sometimes I love these rethugs children.
GOP Rep. Louie Gohmert’s Daughter Calls Him Out For Ignoring Coronavirus Advice
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) has been publicly called out by his daughter for ignoring medical expertise and refusing to wear a face mask before he tested positive for the coronavirus last week, according to multiple media outlets.
“Wearing a mask is a non-partisan issue. The advice of medical experts shouldn’t be politicized,” wrote Caroline Gohmert, a singer who performs as BELLSAINT, in posts shared on social media Friday that were verified to CNN by her agent.
“Please please listen to medical experts,” Caroline Gohmert wrote. “It’s not worth following a president who has no remorse for leading his followers to an early grave.”
Democratic Bill Banning Toxic Pesticides in US Applauded as 'Much-Needed' Step to Protect Kids and the Planet
Democrats in the House and Senate on Tuesday introduced sweeping legislation that would ban some of the most toxic pesticides currently in use in the United States and institute stronger protections for farmworkers and communities that have been exposed to damaging chemicals by the agriculture industry.
The Protect America's Children from Toxic Pesticide Act of 2020, sponsored by Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.), was applauded by environmentalists as a "bold and much-needed" step in the right direction.
"The pesticide industry and chemical agriculture have for far too long been able to abuse legal loopholes allowing for the use of toxic pesticides that have not been adequately tested to make sure they are safe for people and the environment," said Scott Faber, senior vice president for government affairs at the Environmental Working Group. "The Udall-Neguse plan will rein in this largely unchecked explosion of pesticide use by agriculture and give the EPA much stronger authority to protect the public."

Tasmania’s ‘Super-Kelp’ Is Making CO2 Vanish into the Ocean
Sixty years ago, Tasmania’s coastline was cushioned by a velvety forest of kelp so dense it would ensnare local fishers as they headed out in their boats. “We speak especially to the older generation of fishers, and they say, ‘When I was your age, this bay was so thick with kelp, we actually had to cut a channel though it,’” says Cayne Layton, a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania. “Now, those bays, which are probably at the scale of 10 or 20 football fields, are completely empty of kelp. There’s not a single plant left.”
Since the 1960s, Tasmania’s once expansive kelp forests have declined by 90 percent or more. The primary culprit is climate change. These giant algae need to be bathed in cool, nutrient-rich currents in order to thrive, yet regional warming in recent decades has extended the waters of the warmer East Australian Current into Tasmanian seas to devastating effect, wiping out kelp forests one by one. Warming waters have also boosted populations of predatory urchins, which gnaw on kelp roots and compound the loss.
Having spent years studying these benefits, Layton is now trying to bring a patch of Tasmania’s struggling kelp forests back to life. Every few weeks, he dives out to inspect three 39-by-39 feet plots he’s created off the coast, each containing fronds of baby kelp, springing from ropes that are tethered to the ocean floor. These kelp nurseries are part of Layton’s project to determine whether climate-resilient “super-kelp” that has been raised in a laboratory will fare better in Tasmania’s changing seas. But his experiment also brings attention to the extraordinary potential of kelp to absorb carbon and help tackle climate change.
A long read but worth it!
Couple Restores 100-Year-Old Sewing Machine–And Learns To Sew–So They Can Donate Face Masks to the Needy
Giselle Williams didn’t know how to sew. But she did have a family heirloom sitting around the house—her great-great-grandmother’s Singer sewing machine—and wondered if it could be put to use to help others during the pandemic.
It all began when the COVID-19 pandemic brought Giselle’s Colorado hairstyling business to a halt in Arvada. She noticed the growing army of sequestered mask-makers and decided to put her free time to good use—but she never learned how to sew and thought she didn’t have a sewing machine.
That’s when she remembered the 100-year-old treadle machine. It is so old that it doesn’t even use electricity. Instead, the 1922 Singer Model 66 “Red Eye” is powered mechanically by a foot pedal pushed up and down by the operator’s foot. It was being used as a piece of decorative furniture in her guest room.
Since those first weeks, the team has ramped up production and has provided more than 450 masks to churches, restaurants and businesses across Colorado. They have received requests from frontline workers as far away as Japan and Thailand. Currently, the team is at work producing another 50-75 masks to be sold at-cost at the Fetch Markets at Stanley Marketplace in Aurora, Colorado.
Since my career is working with the older adult population, even though I am one now too, this caught my eye as we are trying to be creative in serving our members.
Student Turned Her Ruined Summer Plans Into a Way to Help Isolating Seniors Connect With Doctors
A cancelled internship turned into a big opportunity for one young woman to help her whole state.
Just a few months ago, the Emory University student, like the rest of us, was gearing up for the summer when COVID-19 ruined her plans.
“After receiving countless emails about canceled internships, I had just about concluded that I would be spending my summer twiddling my thumbs,” said Lia Rubel from her home in Barre, Vermont, a blue-collar town of about 10,000.
That’s when she got a call from a friend about a new initiative organized by some Yale University students who saw a great need—a need that escalated to urgent in the era of coronavirus. People were still in need of medical care but couldn’t leave their homes for fear of spreading or contracting the virus, especially seniors, who are more vulnerable.
That’s why, in March, Telehealth Access for Seniors was born: to get communications technology, such as a smartphone or tablet computer, to elderly patients who lack and very much need it.
We are working hard at our organization trying to figure out how to keep vital services available, especially in regard to social isolation and medical and nutrition needs. It is no easy task as so many seniors may not have technology skills or internet services.
Just for fun, and love him or hate him I am into this.
Liquor-infused Ice cream is now legal in New York
And so, by the power vested in Gov. Andrew Cuomo by the state of New York, liquor-infused ice cream is now legal in the Empire State.
The governor signed legislation Monday authorizing the manufacture and sale of liquor-infused frozen desserts. The measure is intended to help the state's dairy workers, liquor producers, restaurants and retailers meet an "increasing consumer demand" for alcoholic ice cream, the governor's office said in a news release.
Whatev’s, I just love how he gets under the wannabe kings skin. But I will eat me some of that, lol!
This may be a bit of old news but what follows is great.
Neil Young Sues Trump Campaign For Using Songs At Campaign Events
Neil Young sued President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign Tuesday for copyright infringement, saying he doesn’t want his music used as a theme song for a “divisive un-American campaign of ignorance and hate.”
The Grammy-award winning Canadian-born musician filed the lawsuit through his lawyers in Manhattan federal court, seeking up to $150,000 in statutory damages for each infringement.
A message seeking comment was left with a campaign spokesperson.
The legendary singer cited repeated use of two songs: “Rockin’ in the Free World” and “Devil’s Sidewalk.”
The campaign has used the tunes numerous times at rallies and political events, including on June 20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the lawsuit said.
Time is a flat circle as Neil Young turns old anti-Bush song into anti-Trump song
Over Neil Young’s long career, he’s had a lot of opportunities to channel frustration and rage over American politics into song. In 1970, Young wrote the miserably relevant “Ohio” with lyrics directly condemning Richard Nixon. In 1989 he called out George H.W. Bush with “Rockin’ In The Free World” before going on to spend the ‘00s releasing protest tracks and the album Living With War aimed at the younger President Bush.
I could not embed the video but here is the link.
