As you know by now these photos were taken before White House staff handed out masks, most likely to protect the president before he came into the room to deliver his Bedminster political rant which included lies about Covid-19 and health insurance for pre-existing conditions.
Trump knew his audience. A reporter who was in the press pool tweeted “Before news conference Trump was caught on a hot mic telling people at club...”You’ll get to meet the fake news tonight. You’ll get to see what I have to go through. Who’s there? Oh all my killers are there, wow. So you’ll get to see some of the people that we deal with every day”
He was talking about the reporters there to cover the speech. Here are a few of them waiting for Trump to enter the room. I can only imagine that they weren’t looking forward to taking their seats with the maskless men standing breathing possible Covid germs onto them.
Here’s a snippet of the crowd reaction:
Trump’s own Twitter page featured select videos of his remarks. Note that the image on top of his page is him speaking to a MAGA rally but there are no photos of his audience at Bedminster.
I doubt members of his MAGA cult care that so many of Trump’s action as president favor the multi-millionaires like those who paid up to $350,000 for a membership in one of his country clubs.
Here’s Joy Reid discussing the Bedminster event with Rep. Eric Swalwell:
Members of MAGA cult should "CLICK TO ENLARGE" and take a good look at the maskless white Trump men who belong to a club that they could never join and which may or may not still be hiring undocumented workers. See: “This Is How Trump Relies on Undocumented Labor for His Resorts — “If you’re a good worker, papers don’t matter,” one former employee said.”
Trump has been compared to many despots although I can’t find articles saying he is like Marie Antoinette. Melania has been compared to her, recently about her wanting to renovate the Rose Garden, but not Donald Trump himself. He is actually similar to her too. Consider:
“Let them eat cake….”
is one of the most famous quotes in history.
At some point around 1789, when being told that her French subjects had no bread, Marie-Antoinette (bride of France’s King Louis XVI) supposedly sniffed, “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche”—“Let them eat cake.” With that callous remark, the queen became a hated symbol of the decadent monarchy and fueled the revolution that would cause her to (literally) lose her head several years later. (It has been disputed whether or to she ever really said it.) History.com
Trump could easily be called the “Let Them Eat Cake president”. It’s too bad that this doesn’t sink in with his base and they don’t start a revolution that would end the way the French Revolution did. I don’t wish him the end suffered Marie Antoinette, France’s last monarch, prison would be fine with me.
