Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, talking about his book, “Disloyal,” with Rachel Maddow earlier this week said that he knew for a fact that Trump is pro-choice. She asked him how he knew this and Cohen replied that he had discussed the matter with Trump extensively on many occasions.
This would have caused an uproar for any other Republican administration. But with the ongoing rush of scandals, crises and catastrophes under the Trump regime, it appears that this allegation has been drowned out by other events.
Perhaps Trump’s anti-abortion supporters, especially all of those so-called “evangelical Christians” for whom abortion is a top issue, don’t care as long as Trump keeps appointing anti-abortion judges?
Even if he were secretly “pro-choice” in his personal beliefs, that is no consolation for those who are pro-choice as long as he continues to appoint the most radical, anti-abortionist extremists.
There’s no way for Cohen to actually prove Trump is pro-choice, especially since, unlike Bob Woodward’s allegations in his new book, there are no tapes to back Cohen up.
As far as whether Trump is or is not pro-choice or anti-abortion, it’s quite possible that he is one or the other, or, perhaps neither. After all, Trump has demonstrated time and again that he can and will say and do whatever he finds convenient at any moment in time with little regard, if any, for so-called “principles” (the very definition of the word “amoral.”)
The surprising thing is how little attention this has gotten.
