trump did a town hall event with George Stephanopoulos last night, where members of the sparse audience (undecided voters) got to ask questions. It was nothing like his MAGA rallies or the interviews in the safe arms of Faux Noos, but trump’s handlers probably expected trump to get a free opportunity to spread his lies to a wider audience; after all George Stephanopoulos is not known for tough questioning with republicans. The result however was a disaster for trump, as he had to bring out his full bag of lies to handle the onslaught of thoughtful questions.
On wearing masks — trump blamed Biden and used the “lot of people are saying ...” line over and over again. Bottom line — trump does not want masks, esp. for waiters (?).
trump defending the COVID-19-downplaying by claiming that the ineffective partial travel ban was up-playing. Orwell would be impressed.
trump is back to peddling herd immunity, except he called it herd mentality. He sure ain’t up-playing the COVID-19 pandemic here. Herd immunity via mass infections has been the strategy all along for republicans.
Rachel Maddow clears up the air on herd immunity or whatever trump calls it now.
Yeah, we know about herd mentality ...
… and we get to see herd mentality every day in MAGAland -
The trump healthcare plan — blame Obama. Stephanopoulos, to his credit, corrected him on his lie about preexisting conditions and trump retreated to the promised make-believe trump snake oil plan.
Ooh, that must have stung the man with the big head and the small brain. The questioner is Ellesia Blaque, an English professor at Kutztown University.
Lies, lies and more lies, in spite of overwhelming evidence of his despicable statements about military personnel. Stephanopoulos does a good job of confronting trump with a few facts.
On racial inequality — trump bragged about how well-off minorities are because of him (face-palm).
Trump: “Well, I hope there's not a race problem. I can tell you there's none with me because I have great respect for all races -- for everybody. This country is great because of it."
trump advocates retribution — for protesters dumping water on cops. One of his enablers must have voter-tested the word retribution, since he seems to use it with abandon now.
Fact-checkers were busy trying to keep up with the torrent of lies -
Four Pinocchious -
Faux noos is alarmed over the event, and rightfully so. It was a train-wreck.
Life outside the bubble is tough.
So, why did he do the town-hall? To keep out of jail?
That person should be given a medal.
Yeah, let’s have more of town halls and let Democracy win.
Now let’s watch Biden on Thursday. Biden is used to talking to people and addressing tough questions, while bubble-boy lives in his Fox hole and MAGA rally bubbles.
This was also a preview of what the debates will look like; these are trump’s talking points and he will repeat them over and over again. You can bet that Biden will be prepared. We can also hope that the moderators will at least point out the most egregious lies coming out of trump’s mouth.
Let’s send these tweets to our friends and family and let’s keep working on taking back the House, the Senate and the White House this November.
