Bars and footballs go hand-in-hand. It’s big business for many places. Nevertheless, an American Legion in central Minnesota decided to stop showing NFL games in their club.
The members of the St. Augusta Legion Club voted to suspend showing NFL games. Why? You can about imagine. Said the local commander:
“We’ve served our country,” Zenzen explained. “We fought under the flag of the United States of America, and the National Anthem is part of that. We stand for the flag, the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. It means a lot to veterans.”
A quick Google search showed a smattering of Legion clubs from a couple years ago stopping broadcasts. This is the first instance in Minnesota of a bar not showing games that I’m aware of.
This club is a private enterprise, so they are certainly free to not show NFL games if they so choose. If they are willing to take the financial hit from doing that, so bet it. Right now their FB page is silent on the topic. And I wonder what the reaction might be when the news of this act goes broader than just a local AM radio station.
