Michael McConnell [1] is not well loved across America. Loathed is the better term if Amy McGrath’s campaign contributions are any judge. McConnell’s policies are deeply unpopular with Americans so let’s throw vulnerable Senate candidates a boat anchor, which would also remind them who precisely would be to blame should they lose. Perhaps an ad like this might play well:
CLOSE UP HEAD SHOT OF COLLINS
Voiceover:
Susan Collins claims she’s a voice for Maine.
CAMERA SLOWLY PULLS BACK
Voiceover:
Yet she keeps voting against you
CAMERA BACK FURTHER TO SHOW THE HEAD IS A HANDLE FOR A RUBBER STAMP
Voiceover:
But she almost always votes for Mitch McConnell’s terrible policies
A HAND REACHES FROM OFFSCREEN TO THE STAMP
Voiceover:
Such as a trillion dollar tax break for billionaires while you get nothing...
A BILL DROPS ONTO THE TABLE, THE HAND GRABS THE COLLINS-FACED STAMP AND STAMPS IT
Voiceover:
Trying to take healthcare away from unemployed people...
ANOTHER BILL DROPS, GETS STAMPED
Voiceover:
Judges with credible accusations swirling around their past...
PICTURE OF KAVANAUGH GETS STAMPED
Voiceover:
Or McConnell-approved hyper-partisan judges who decide for pollution and corporations versus people while deciding against women and voting rights
A FLURRY OF PICTURES FALL ONTO THE TABLE, STAMP, STAMP, STAMP, STAMP
Voiceover:
Do we really need another rubber stamp Senator? In 2020, choose Sarah Gideon, a true voice for Maine.
Sarah Gideon:
I’m Sarah Gideon, running for Senate, and I approve this message.
.
Lather, rinse, repeat for Gardner, McSally, and anyone else wanting a turtle-shaped boat anchor. If they’re defeated this November (please please please) then they can remember how their embrace of McConnell doomed them in races they might have won. They might even return the favor in the lame-duck session.
[1] Mitch sounds too approachable for the worst Senator of modern times
