If Democrats intend on getting anything done once they take back the Senate, they need to do away with the Filibuster, This is especially true if they intend on expanding the number of Justices on the Supreme Court. One way to do this would be to eliminate the Filibuster, but reinstate it prior to the 2022 election. Make the Republicans, should they retake the Senate, repeal it as well, as opposed to leveraging the Democrats action. That will end “The Filibuster is Sacrosanct” BS tout de suite.
Additionally, if the Democrats move to eliminate the Filibuster, they better use the time they have without the Republicans on their necks to implement wide ranging policies that benefit the American people directly, and would burn the Republican Party to the ground were they to repeal any of it. I don’t know if Democrats are ideologically capable of of going for the throat in that way, but if they don’t, a repeal of the Filibuster would be just another grand move that blows up in their face.
This much is true, if the Democrats don’t eliminate the Filibuster, they’ll find themselves back in McConnell’s straitjacket again, and will go into the midterm elections of 2022 with a demoralized base once more. Begging for people to show up isn’t the way to run a political party … give them a REASON to show up that doesn’t reek of the Perils of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.
Anyway, that’s my two-cents.
