I stepped out in the garage to have a cigarette. I had the camera with me in case some creature became available. A movement caught my eye. I’ll let the 40 second video show you what I saw.

Now, I enjoy a good mystery as much as the next person, but this was too wierd. I discounted poltergeist right away, along with hurricane, earthquake and aliens. I started using my imagination to think of a reason (beyond hallucinations). Here was my best guess.
I suspected a moth or butterfly might be escaping it’s chrysalis (as in this 1:35 minute film). The motion of escaping may have caused the rocking. I was wrong.
I saw nothing fly away after the filming stopped. There was no bird above or below making the limb move. I walked around the tree and could see nothing unusual. Then the remnants of the storms hit north central Mississippi. The wind blew, the rain fell, thunder boomed and lightning flashed.
I went out two days later to find the leaf in question. It had fallen. I found it and the mystery was solved. Here is the leaf and another confirmation that an insect was the culprit.
I’m glad to know our insect population is healthy here. It further allows me to present my bug of the day. Below is the Eight-spotted Forester Moth. The larva can be found feeding on wild grapevines (Muscadine) and Trumpeter vine leaves. The adults will feed on flower nectar. These tiny insects look “Butterfly like” and are flashy fliers to enhance their wing designs.
