It is highly likely that Trump will attempt to try out at the debate a slightly compressed version of his off-the-rails-and-off-the-topic approach that he exercises at both his rallies and interview questions. His approach is a modified version of the Gish Gallop technique in debates, perfected by the creationist Duane Gish who sought to “overwhelm an opponent with as many arguments as possible, without regard for accuracy or strength of the arguments.”
In Trump’s case, however, the “arguments” will be a plethora of idiotic and uprovable fallacies. Joe, you have a good sense of humor. Maybe pull out at first the line from the Gipper: “As President Reagan sometimes would say, ‘There you go again!’ And then something like: “There’s more cents in a ransacked and demolished piggy bank than what we’ve been made to listen to in the past two minutes. Ladies and gentlemen, our country has been made to suffer for nearly four years now from this cornucopia of lies and distortions (AKA bullshit). Enough is enough. I won’t dignify all of my opponent’s rubbish attacks with an answer because they’re so far from the truth, they would need a space shuttle to get back to earth reality and a hand calculator to count them all, however, I will address Mr. Wallace’s basic question with a rational answer…..” Keep that smile on and your wit cracking, Joe. You’d have a battle of wits with Trump, but we know you’d never attack an unarmed man….except on September 29th, with a nice big dose of reality and looking forward to progress for our people.
