Yesterday I had to drive from the airport in Atlanta to Gainesville, GA. Now Gainesville is about as red as it gets with Fire-breathing red crazy Doug Collins representing them in Congress. Five minutes into my drive, I noticed something strange. I did not see a single Trump bumper sticker on any of the cars or trucks on the road.
At first I thought this might be because I was still in Atlanta, and, naturally, I wouldn’t be seeing them yet. But as I got closer to Gainesville, and then in Gainesville, I still didn’t see one. Not one Trump bumper sticker my entire 1 ½ hour ride out. Even more curious, I never saw a single Trump sign, MAGA hat or any of the usual Trump paraphernalia I’ve come to expect when I’m here.
At one point I drove around just to see if I could find ANY signs, bumper stickers or MAGA hat wearers, and found none. Most curiously, all the confederate and American flags I usually see were no where to be found as well.
Now, I have to say I didn’t see a single Biden sign or bumper sticker as well. I also think it would be a miracle if the state turns blue. But there is definitely not a whole lot of enthusiasm for Trump here in Gainesville which even a year ago was bastion of MAGA hat wearing, Trump bumper sticker toting brazen Trump fanboys. The voters who come out will most likely be voting for Trump, so the question is, how many will be staying home?
I’m also going to confess that I didn’t drive out to the Gainesville “burbs” which are miles upon miles of recently built housing developments where you can get a brand new 2,500 square foot home for less than $250,000. I usually saw a lot of confederate flags and MAGA stuff gracing these homes in my past ventures out here. But here in Gainesville proper, the temperature for Trump seems to have cooled from red hot to tepid.
