There you were, doing routine business, very boring business, the small talk and comments, hobnobbing with the others — and suddenly there’s this noise, loud violent sounds, angry shouts, an unseen tumult coming your way. “Quick! Get out! They’re coming!” you hear people shout.
Congrats, Congress. Now you have a feel for what blacks and other minorities had to face when the lynch mobs and angry whites came for them intent on killing, or looting their homes and businesses and burning them down feel.
So you were in this suddenly confused and surprised state and hear gunshots — so you ducked under whatever you could, if you managed to get to a room you closed the door and barricaded it with everything you could find and use, with your heart pounding and not knowing if a hail of bullets would come through the door.
Again, good for you, Congress -- you’ve had the same experiences and reactions students or offices workers or dance club patrons have when a murderous lunatic bursts in among them and starts shooting people.
And as you sat barricaded or ran in flight, terrified and helpless, you probably wondered where the hell the cops were, or security, or the back-up that was to ensure these things didn’t happen?
Wonderful take, Congress. Now you know how the people who peacefully protest and are assailed by thugs while the cops saunter by and look on feel. Or the raped woman who’s distraught and finding no sympathy, no help from the police she’s gone to feels.
So you’ve never before suffered any personal ill effects from cutting school budgets, or allowing RW hate media free reign, or refusing to curtail the gun epidemic, or denying large stimulus checks and extended unemployment benefits, or face discrimination, street violence or economic uncertainty or wait endlessly for disaster relief or a vaccine shot or medical care or …
Except now you finally got a real-life, up close and personal taste of some things us poor slob 99%ers have to worry about every day. How does it feel?
What? It didn’t feel good?
So a comradely salute to you, distant, snooty, insulated, responsibility-ducking purveyors of political power used to serve your own needs, congrats.
FINALLY now you are Americans. You now know how OUR lives are.
