Some good things may have happened in 2011, but we are still just looking at January, and there wasn’t much wildlife to see! In fact, I almost skipped 2012, because there were not too many nature related photos… But, I found some photos of geese and pelicans and other seabirds. Here are some of the geese:
There were also not many photos for January 2013 — but we did have some nice icicles hanging from the cliffs along Blair Bridge Park:
The deer at our back yard feeding area make a good subject for January 2014:
and 2015:
In January 2016 we visited Blanchard Springs Caverns near the town of Fifty-Six, AR:
The cave itself was pretty, too — we were the only ones on the tour and got a personalized view from the tour guide:
In January 2017 we did not travel very far — this was in our woods at home:
And this coyote was wandering along our driveway:
In January 2018 we come back to the feeding area where the deer show up each evening — usually the does and the young ones:
The big boys come at a different time than the ladies do:
And a nuthatch:
In December 2019 I was down by Fox Creek at the low-water crossing and saw this tiny fish trying to go over it against the current. It eventually made it across:
In January 2020 we had a combination snow and ice storm. The ice stuck around for a while and it looked like a winter wonderland in our yard:
I wonder if I have anything from this month that would make a good and fitting ending to a diary about nature in the month of January? Would it be the armadillo?
Or the opossum who has been pooping all over our porch?
or the cardinals at our feeders?
We are only at the end of the second week of January and I hardly have any photos this month...maybe I need to go in search of something more special than these to end this Bucket. Early tomorrow morning maybe? Maybe not!
