Here is a quote from the article above:
Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) released a statement saying, in part: “Yesterday was a sad and solemn day for our country. The outrageous attack on the Capitol, however, will not stop us from affirming to Americans — and the world — that our democracy endures. . . . The great American tradition of an inaugural ceremony has occurred in times of peace, in times of turmoil, in times of prosperity, and in times of adversity. We will be swearing in President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol on January 20, 2021.”
I say NO to a “traditional” inauguration. I say that nothing about our times right now is traditional. I say we respond with a creative approach to our traditions with an inauguration that takes advantage of high tech visual enhancements and high tech security solutions.
I say let’s have the inaugural ceremony in a totally secure (maybe even undisclosed) space with high tech visual enhancements to highlight this important event while providing heightened safety for the “core” group officiating the ceremony. Then provide a live digital visual for the others “on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol” and provide that same digital offering for all Americans around the country. I say enhance the West Front of the Capitol to create the special mood all attendees are hoping for in that special and historic space. Additionally …..record for all to see: the events and people on the West Front.
These are not normal times. Just like we respond in special ways to extraordinary events such as hurricanes, wildfires, and human tragedies such as 911 or horrific events such as the murder of George Floyd, let us celebrate our very special Presidential Inauguration Ceremony with an informed and thoughtful plan that truly honors our country, its traditions and its people.
We have it in us to create a very special celebration that resonates around the world and resonates for generations to come, while keeping all that carry our democracy forward protected and therefore safe.
I called my Senators asking for a more secure inauguration ceremony. I will be calling my Congressional Representative as well. I am encouraging others to do the same.
