Darth Jaba (the Hut) Drumph will be gone in about 24 hours. His odoriferous stench will linger in our minds for years to come, but we have this one-time-only chance to shift our attention AWAY from him and on to the business of our country. The United States of America has weathered the worst administration in its history. While there is unfinished business with the (enter your own list of adjectives here) Trump wrecking crew, including impeachment, legal and civil cases ad nauseam, re-education of the public, and a host of others, we do NOT need to talk about the embodiment of evil himself any more.
President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have one hell of a mess to sort out and make right again, they must not do it alone. Those of us who have spent the past four years railing against the hater-in-chief are now tasked with the responsibility to provide support for all of the Biden-Harris agenda. There is no time for nit-picking about “oh, they’re not Progressive enough” or “why don’t they do something NOW about (name-your-favorite-cause)”. I am an ardent supporter of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and many of her cohorts, but we must show how we can work together for something greater for our country.
When was the last time you wrote a positive story about politics? Yes, many of you have, but ask yourself what percentage of all your stories have been focused positively. I, like most of the authors here have been enraged and let it show. But what might happen if all of a sudden we changed from 80+% negative to 80+% positive?
After the Civil War was over, the nation needed healing. Unfortunately the President best suited to this task was gunned down before he had a chance to even get started. Now we are faced with an opportunity like no other—to seek and promote the kind of change which has made this country the most admired in the world (except for the last four years). If we want to regain that respect we must do everything we can to restore confidence in our treaties, our agreements and our word as a nation of law, order and leadership. Once again a beacon of Democracy.
