I watched the interview with Katie Benner, the NY Times reporter who broke the story and wrote the article, and Chris Hayes on All In, Chris Hayes popular MSNBC news show, and this seems to be the overview of this act by Thing to overturn the Georgia election results.
There now seems no doubt that Attorney General Bill Barr resigned because Barr would not support Thing’s lies and actions to overturn the election. Attorney General Barr not only told the public that there was no evidence of massive voter fraud, but also told Thing the same repeatedly in private. Mr. Rosen who was the Acting Attorney General who heads the Department of Justice told Thing the same thing numerous times in private. Mr. Clark asked Mr. Rosen to write a letter to the Georgia state legislature that said that DOJ was going to investigate serious allegations of voter fraud and that the results of the election in Georgia were not likely to stand. Therefore, the letter would continue, you , the Georgia state legislature, should prepare to overturn the results of the election in Georgia. Mr. Rosen refused to do this. Thing and Clark came up with a plan to make Clark lead the DOJ and replace Mr. Rosen who could only stay on as a deputy at most while Clark then wrote the same letter.
This was only prevented because four officials within the DOJ who learned of the plan threatened to all resign and told Thing that this would be another Saturday Night massacre which would take attention off of any alleged voter fraud and put it on the new Saturday Night massacre.
