Good Saturday Morning, my Friends, and welcome to the 1st SMGB diary of the Biden/Harris Administration! I specifically chose this date to talk about renewal and transition because this is the weekend that I start my pepper seeds for the new season. Couple that with a new President and another Bama National Championship, and things are definitely looking up!!
My pepper grow list for 2021 is much like last year. Notable changes include the addition of Ghost Pepper and the deletion of Hinkelhatz.
Hot:
Prairie Spice (info here)
Ghost Pepper
Rooster Spur
Numex Nematador
Jalapeno
Ho Chi Minh (info here)
Not:
Bill's Striped
Largo de Reus
Elephant Ear
I ended up with 63 pepper plants last year. That number will be reduced by about a third in 2021. My favorite hot sauces from last year were the Prairie Spice green sauce and the Fire-roasted Jalapeno sauce, so Hinkelhatz was taken off my list to make more room for those two varieties… Ghost Pepper was added to this year’s list at the request of a couple of pepperhead “hot freaks”, who whined that the hot sauce they were gifted just wasn’t hot enough… ;/

I made a delivery to a pretty cool retired surgeon last week. He and his wife very graciously allowed me to take a few pics. They have lived on this property since the mid-70s, and do all the landscaping work themselves. Enjoy!
This fallen “Bodock” (Osage Orange) tree is pretty awesome! The Dr. said that it went down “quite a few years ago”, but still puts up occasional new growth...
It was raining, and I didn’t really have time for a more extensive tour of the property, but I hope to go back in the Spring for more pictures! There are numerous outbuildings and an absolutely stunning Magnolia tree...
That’s about it from downheah this morning, what’s going on in your gardens? By the way, our very own Missys Brother published a really cool diary yesterday. Take a look at it HERE.
