This morning Meghan McCain tweeted out that she was “Headed back to work this morning to trigger all the people who would rather half the country doesn’t exist. See ya 11 kids.” McCain has been out on maternity leave this past year and just recently returned to her position as rich kid who has a right-wing job because she’s rich and her parents are powerfully connected. A reminder on the kind of person McCain is: After being given six weeks paid maternity leave from her job, McCain had medical issues and needed to take more time. She needed and deserved and got that time. It was only after that experience that McCain realized that her political party has opposed maternity and paternity leave for most workers forever.
Anywhos, McCain, like many rich kids (see Ivanka and Jared and Eric and Junior), is not particularly sophisticated in her view of the world. She’s been mostly fed simple talking points by paternalistic asshole parents, and the thrust of her education has focused on reading teleprompter and acting comfortably on camera. On Wednesday, Senator-elect Rev. Raphael Warnock came on The View to talk about his historic win in Georgia. McCain’s only leg to stand on these days—the same leg that newly reasonable Republicans are taking—is why would Democrats, newly elected, start making laws and stuff that the people who elected them want them to make? You know, why can’t we all just get along and pretend there aren’t kids in cages and that our country isn’t in a pandemic that is still being screwed up by the Republican-controlled government? Then, as Warnock didn’t tell her he was going to act like a corrupt Republican, McCain tried to talk through him and host Whoopi Goldberg, which led to this beautiful moment.
McCain, like many right-wing pundits, believes that if she can pantomime like she’s asking “gotcha” questions it will make her seem intelligent and a person with integrity. Like many Republicans, only her feelings mater, while facts and reality take a secondary place to how she is feeling at any given point in the day. Sadly, for some people in our country it does pass for intelligence. But we still have this image to rejoice in.
Here’s are some thoughts.
