I have had to calm down “bigly” before I could sit down to write this.
“I never thought this could happen here” — how many times have we heard this? How many of us believed this? I never did. Pay special note to the post date of this Facebook Post I made. I predicted this. There’s times I love to be proved wrong, and this is one of those times when I wish I had been.
Trump now has blood on his hands. One woman (apparently with the domestic terrorists) is dead...shot dead, Three others had medical emergencies that led to their deaths in the wild rumpus we witnessed today. This is the most shameful moment in my nation’s history that I have witnessed.
January 6, 2021 — will now live in infamy, along with dates like Dec 7, 1941 and Nov 22, 1963 and April 4 and June 6, 1968, and Sept 11, 2001 and April 12, 1861. As shameful as June 1, 1942 — the date Manzanar opened.
I really don’t want to engage in further division in our hurting nation...but I never want to hear these Trump supporters ever again claim to be patriots! How DARE they chant USA! USA! USA! when, by today’s actions, they have showed they have no respect for our nation, our institutions, our property, our laws, procedures and norms? They have spit on democracy, and our Constitution.
And Donald Trump has violated his Oath Of Office. He has incited insurrection, and there must be consequences, Whether or not Pence and the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment, as is being discussed...Trump absolutely must be impeached again. And this time, the Senate needs to support it. I’m pretty sure Trump can forget any plans to run in 2024 now, but let’s make sure...by impeaching him and convicting him, so that he will be disqualified from ever holding public office again.
At the very least Josh Hawley should be expelled as well. He actually raised a fist at the Trump supporters, encouraging them. He even sent fundraising emails while our nation’s capitol was being torn asunder.
This, however, might be the event that serves as a catalyst to wake up the nation from Trumpism. Maybe this moment can bring about the change this nation needs.
May it be so.
