I was so very excited to read this article from the Roanoke Times after collecting eggs, tomatoes, and mushrooms this morning. Bridgette Craighead is the voice I want representing me in the Virginia House of Delegates. I can’t imagine reading a more diametrically opposed piece about two candidates. Please take a moment to follow the link and check it out.
Her potential legislative agenda is much broader than Williams’, “I want to build coalitions to work together on solutions that meet the needs of all people,” she said. “I want to improve access to quality, affordable health care and mental health resources so every Virginian can get the care they need when they are sick.” — Roanoke Times
We have a real chance to make meaningful change in rural Virginia in the next few weeks. There is a slate of Democrats running to flip seats for the Virginia House of Delegates in red areas that often go uncontested. Look out for
Rhett Deitz in HD14,
Chance Trevillian in HD16,
Wendy Rowden in HD19
Greg Eaton in HD22,
Jennifer Kitchen in HD25,
Caitlin Coakley in HD65, and so many others that are going to move the bar this November. While their Republican opponents have nothing but Nationalist rhetoric to talk about these Democratic candidates are focused on issues that will make a positive impact for the people of their districts.
She wants to close the gaps in rural broadband and transportation access — “we live in a district where if you don’t have a car, you are stuck” — and fully fund school budgets.
She and Williams “do agree on one thing, Patrick County is in desperate need for their own hospital, and that’s one of the things I want to do as well,” she said. — Roanoke Times
Others spew their adjective salad word-vomit to label her “Liberal BLM Marxist ANTIFA Islami” or send hate mail telling her to “go back to Africa” but Bridgette just keeps standing up for everybody — even them. Her campaign and activism have been about love and unity since the beginning.
She stepped on to our local scene following the murder of George Floyd when she started a Black Lives Matter group in Rocky Mount, VA — probably the last place you might expect to see that happen. Since then, national media outlets have covered her work and bravery when outting two of the local police officers that infiltrated the group as friends and went on to paticipate in the January 6th Insurrection.
Regarding his focus on critical race theory, she said that hers and his “attention should be on what is mattering in our district, we should not be entertaining national distractions that have taken us away from the real issues here.” — Roanoke Times
I want you to pray for us, manifest this victory, or just know that Democracy will not die in silence here. She is standing up against amazing odds and fragility is shattering all around her. She is a force to be reckoned with and I am proud to stand with her. If you are sick of that crazy-train you can come sit with us on the Bridgette Bus.
Thanks for reading. Helping candidates like Bridgette stand up in the red spaces will add numbers at the top of the ticket and could create major change for the vibe on the floor of our General Assembly.
