Something big and wonderful happened today in the world of comic books and the story of Superman. The character of Jon Kent, the new Superman, who is the son of the original Superman Clark Kent and Lois Lane, was revealed to be bisexual with a love interest named Jay Nakamura. DC released an advanced art image showing the two share a kiss.
It’s the dawn of a new day in the multiverse of Superman and DC fandom.
But as very well expected, the news was met headlong with the dark, quite overt current of homophobia and culture warmongering that runs through the right. You can imagine right-wing world going all apoplectic over this development.
And so the stupid ignorant homophobic trump-loving Arizona State Senator Wendy Rogers tweeted this to the stupid ignorant homophobic trump-loving republican base —
You can figure out all the things that are wrong with this bigoted tweet but a few of them make for some hilarious responses.
Louis Lane will be trending soon —
Fox is the channel of the stupid, by the stupid and for the stupid -
Who knows what Wendy was trying to do.
If Wendy meant the new Superman, the son of Clark Kent loves Lois Lane, that would take on a whole new meaning. Yuck.
Thooperman? Republicans are sick.
Perhaps, DC should time-travel back and do some stories on Superman and Louis Lane.
But the right lives in a world detached from reality anyways -
On a more serious and sensible note —
Let’s rejoice in the development of this very modern Superman -
From www.dccomics.com/…
"I've always said everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes and I’m very grateful DC and Warner Bros. share this idea,” said writer Tom Taylor. “Superman's symbol has always stood for hope, for truth and for justice. Today, that symbol represents something more. Today, more people can see themselves in the most powerful superhero in comics."
Just like his father before him, Jon Kent has fallen for a reporter. After initially striking up a friendship with reporter Jay Nakamura, he and Jon become romantically involved in the pages of SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL #5 from writer Tom Taylor (DARK KNIGHTS OF STEEL) and artist John Timms (HARLEY QUINN). Following a scene where Superman mentally and physically burns out from trying to save everyone that he can, Jay is there to care for the Man of Steel.
“I'm incredibly honored to be working beside Tom on the SUPERMAN: SON OF KAL-EL series showing Jon Kent tackling his complex modern life, while also saving the world from its greatest threats, villains and menaces,” said artist John Timms.
From www.nytimes.com/… -
The new Superman, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, is concerned about the environment, does not shy away from politics and will soon begin a romantic relationship with a male friend.
Since his new series, Superman: Son of Kal-El, began in July, Jon has combated wildfires caused by climate change, thwarted a high school shooting and protested the deportation of refugees in Metropolis.
There is joy and pride over this development -
Republicans just want culture wars — over anything and everything the civilized world does. It’s to keep the base angry and cowering in fear. Unfortunately, much of it works. And we have to keep fighting to make sure that these purveyors of hate and division do not succeed.
