I’ve always felt that our news media is just as much at fault for their coverage as they are for what they do not cover. Omission is an insidious tool to misinform.
I was usually pretty happy to listen to many major media representatives, one of which was Katie Couric, but have lost faith in the ability for many of these media ‘stars’ to be unbiased. Granted, many may not realize that not including the full context surrounding their stories causes as much, or possibly more, harm than good. But it still causes harm.
I call it unintended consequences. I feel anyone in a position of some authority needs to use critical thinking in everything they decide to report. Because without thinking about the opposite possibilities of the report they are about to offer, can be more devastating than the report itself.
Bias isn’t just what you cover, it’s also what you decide not to cover. By employing the sin of omission, the media protects its progressive heroes and, in the process, picks political winners and losers. Instead of telling us the facts, they print the legend. Is it any surprise that we don't believe them anymore?
Katie Couric was so careful not to do harm that she actually created a massive problem.
The mainstream media’s credibility took another big hit this week. Katie Couric, the former co-host of NBC’s Today show, revealed in a new memoir that she chose not to air some controversial comments made to her five years ago by the sainted Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, involving RBG’s criticism of NFL players like Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem. www.yahoo.com/...
And this is only one example. I’m positive there are many more that others can include in this but this is the one that really shines a bright light on what unintended consequences can do. Its no wonder many folks have lost faith in the news media with so much noodle soup being served up to the public these days.
