Once again, Terry has come up with an interesting observation on things political. This time, it is the potential rise of a pan-Celtic confederacy. He postulates that as a result of Brexit and the current high-performing economies of the Celtic dominated areas of greater Britain, those Celtic lands will find it to be in their interest to unite with each other and rejoin the ECM rather than remaining tied to the poorly performing economy of the increasingly insular Anglo-Saxon England.
Our Irish cousin Patrick Moore’s fondest dream is coming true. And within a matter of a few years. If Sein Fenn wins the elections in 2022, as seems likely, negotiations will undoubtedly start on the reunification of the Emerald Isle. And the Irish Tiger will become even more vibrant.
An interesting fact: my Boston Scientific ICD (implanted cardiac device) and my in room “communicator” to the VA cardiac clinic are both made in Ireland. They are state of the art, according to the BS tech, who’s from Wales. He doesn’t particularly care for the English either. That’s why he works in the US. He said Wales is being left behind his fellow high tech Irish Celts by the English ignoring Welch needs.
I wouldn’t dismiss the breakup of the UK in ten years over Brexit. Both Wales and Scotland could join a new Celtic federation of Ireland, Wales and Scotland to create a new United Celtic Republic in the EU and overcome many of the economic drawbacks of breaking with the UK.
With the desire to stay in the EU the driving force, it’s all but inevitable a majority of Northern Ireland will vote to reunite. Boris Johnson could care less. As far as he’s concerned, this Irish splinter of the old empire is roadkill on the road to Brexit, and “ the bright future of England’s return to commercial greatness”, whatever that means. Of course, he’s all about what’s best for England. And he’s dead wrong about that.
My view is the UK won’t be around in 20 years. It will be The Kingdom of England, if indeed, it’s still a monarchy. An interesting historical fact: England ruled half of France in the 15th Century ( the age of Joan of Arc). And then collapsed into Civil War (The War of the Roses) after Henry V’s untimely death at 25. Similarly, England had recovered from WWII, dominated International Banking and had created a vibrant post war economic recovery under Margret Thatcher and Tony Blair. Then came the Brexit Civil War, and it’s going up in smoke once again. Poor old England. Up with: “Unite the Celts!”
Northern Ireland Is Coming to an End
I am not so sure about this. The Celts have always had a difficult time joining together for anything even when facing annihilation so why should this time be any different. I would love to see it happen though. Imagine the music, the poetry, the drinking, and the fighting.
