When will Republicans stop kissing Vladimir Putin’s ass? It created the greatest threat to our democracy since the Civil War. This was not by chance and was years in the making. The Republican propaganda machine has worked very hard for the last thirty or so years, leading up to this. Putin just saw the opportunity and took it. The Republicans’ vote to indict Steve Bannon of criminal contempt charges will tell us if the ass-kissing is waning.
When Donald Trump won the 2016 Primary, the Republicans in power took a 180-degree turn. With Trump obviously dominated by Vladimir Putin, the brown-nosing expanded to Russia. I’m sure Steve Bannon was the orchestrator of the liaison, as an incompetent Karl Rove want-to-be. According to the Associated Press, “Challenging Bannon’s defiance is a crucial step for the panel, whose members are vowing to restore the force of congressional subpoenas after they were routinely flouted during Trump’s time in office.” This would also cut a few of Putin’s puppet strings.
My opponent, Trump’s ‘My Kevin’, confirmed this first in June 2016 when his private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders was recorded. In a 2017 article from the Washington Post titled, House majority leader to colleagues in 2016: ‘I think Putin pays’ Trump, ‘My Kevin’, much to Paul Ryan’s horror, won’t stop talking about the Republicans, including Trump, that Vlad had paid-off. When his fellow Republicans laughed at his comments, McCarthy replied, “Swear to God,” in a serious tone. The insurrection was essentially in the works at that moment.
As much as I disagree with Cheney, I hope she can convince some Rs to vote to indict Bannon and slap Trump and his lapdog McCarthy. Considering how McCarthy chose lies and Trump over the truth and her, I would imagine the ‘gloves are off’. I hope she will work diligently with Pelosi to unveil the truth and pressure fellow Republicans to follow through with all the subpoenas. I can’t wait to see how this Republican hatefest turns out.
We Dems need to spread this story of treason to the ten million undecided voters in our nation that somehow missed it in the news. That way, when I join my fellow Democrats on Capitol Hill we can at least bring coherent debate back to the governing process because we will have a cushion to our majority in the House and Senate. Maybe, then, we can actually get something done that will support the American people: Address climate change, healthcare, infrastructure, and all the other things that bring quality of life. That is when the distractive ‘drama’ ends and the work begins.
We need to pay close attention to those Republicans that choose not to vote to convict Bannon of criminal contempt charges tomorrow. Those Benedict Arnolds will out themselves as the traitors they truly are and deserve a closer look by the Commission. Let the Litmus test begin.
