"Be Happy With a Half a Loaf. It's Better Than Nothing".
A snarky re-work of the decades old metaphor.
Last November we bought an almost expired loaf at the Day Old Bread store (and some Tasty Cupcakes too). The first coupla four slices were really good.
Then the bread kinda dried out, so we made savory croutons from the next few slices until it was about half gone.
The rest of the loaf sat on the counter. We'd open the bag and it was still edible(?) it did smell a little yeasty. So we bought some Naan bread instead.
You could almost see a spot of green but we pinched it off and made French Toast. Figuring cooking would make it non-toxic. The chickens got a couple of slices too. (See image above)
Well, we're down to the last moldy and crumpled slice, the two heels, and the crumbs in the bottom of the bag. But sure, let's go ahead and eat those. Since that's all there is left. We can always try to buy another loaf, later.
Or maybe just hang out and use our newly acquired pandemic quarantine bread making skills.
Or maybe if we can afford it we'll go gluten free.
