This will be a short diary. The above photo was in today’s Houston Chronicle with a short article. The photo was of orphaned mountain gorilla Ndakasi as she lies in the arms of her Democratic Republic of the Congo caregiver Andre Bauma shortly before she died on Sept. 26 after a long illness.
Bauma and others at the Senkwekwe Mountain Gorilla Center had cared for Ndakasi and other orphaned mountain gorillas for 13 years.
Ndakasi’s life was featured in shows and the documentary film “Virunga”.
This emotional photo of Ndakasi and her friend and caregiver Andre Bauma brought me to tears over such love, compassion, and heartbreak in that powerful moving photo. Love and compassion are not just human emotions; they can be a part of all creatures great and small. Goodbye Ndakasi. You were indeed loved. You were indeed important.
Now to shed and dry more tears.
